DList Social Networking Site

What is DList you may ask. Simply put it is "a social network for gay guys and their friends"
See http://www.dlist.com/welcome.do People who create their own DList profile are called
"Dlisters" as with all social networking sites anyone can create a profile. However DList has a
system in place so that you can become a verified DLister so people who view your profile can have some assurance that the picture on your profile is actually you. Membership is free but there is also a plus membership available for a modest fee (30 days for $10 or 90 days for $25).
With the plus membership you get unlimited access to private pictures, your profile will show up first in searchs, you get advanced search features, the ability to block users, additional mail storage and the ability to change your screen name. All this is nice but I don't think I'd pay for it.
You get plenty of features with the free membership ie: the ability to put a My Music Player on your profile, blog put up videos and pictures, RSS feeds etc. One of the major features I really like is the ability to create your own badge with you can put on our web site or other blogs etc.
which links back to you DList profile. Here is mine:

Although I haven't done much with this site yet I probably will use it more in the future. Unlike other social networking sites which focus on a wide range of individuals I like the narrow group
this site is geared to.
Some other features of the site are: IM, see when your friends are online, search music and videos, search members etc.
If you have a business you can also advertise here.

From DList Help section http://www.dlist.com/help.do here is their statement of purpose:

What is the purpose of DList?DList’s purpose is to provide gay men with everything they’d get from an online profile site but with better features and more of them. It has many of the features of manhunt.net, nerve.com, friendster.com and myspace.com but we’re worked to make them so much better than those sites. As well as being a site where gay men can meet other men from around the world, there are regular parties thrown for DListers in New York (and soon they’ll happen around the country). Dlist.com also features DList Radio, DList's Internet radio program that broadcasts live every Saturday night from New York’s East Village. What is the purpose of DList?DList’s purpose is to provide gay men with everything they’d get from an online profile site but with better features and more of them. The help section is very useful to guide you through all the steps in using the site. Also you can contact them with any questions.

If you are a gay male or a friend of gay males this site is worth taking some time to look around.

Google Apps I am discovering

I am pretty used to google since I have used gmail and igoogle for awhile now.
Google docs is something I knew exsisted but just never used until recently. I do like the idea of having a free online place to store and share documents from. Uploading is very simple a few clicks and you are done, however the conversion process may change an html page. I found that I had to download it again and open with IE for it to display correctly. This problem may though have not been with google docs itself but from the versions of the file I was using or any number of others things I may have done. More trial and error will be required on my part before I will post a bad comment about google docs. The user interface is very easy to navagate and understand. You do not have to be an IT professional to use google docs. Even grandpa and grandma should be able to use it without a ton of internet experience. Plus there is a lot of help out there for this application. Here is one video for example.

Another thing I do not do much is chat with other users however, I do like the chat in google email. You can have as many chat sessions going on at the same time with as many other users as you can keep up with. Here is another video about the chat feature

Overall I think google has always done a great job of developing very user friendly applications and the best part of all is that they are free. I love google and will continue to use it until I dead and buried.

Packer's Almost Win

What is that old saying "close only counts in horseshoes and handgranades". We need a lot of skill and a little luck now to get in the playoffs.

Packer's Must Win

My first post on my new blog. Just watching the Packers playing in Green Bay.
They need to win from here on out.
